Physical Education
At Lacewood, we understand the vital importance of staying physically active and the positive impact it has on overall well-being. To support our aim of fostering a healthy lifestyle for all pupils, we place active learning at the heart of our teaching approach.
We are dedicated to providing every child with daily opportunities to engage in physical activity, helping them grow in both confidence and competence. By offering a variety of sporting experiences, we hope to inspire a lasting enthusiasm for physical activity that extends beyond the classroom and continues into adulthood.
Our Curriculum
Taking into account the feedback and interests of our pupils, the staff at Lacewood have collaboratively designed a curriculum that nurtures physical literacy in a structured and developmental way. Sports and activities are deliberately revisited throughout different year groups, allowing children to deepen their understanding, refine essential motor skills, and tackle new challenges as they grow.
Our PE lessons are crafted to be dynamic and meaningful, focusing on both declarative (knowing what) and procedural (knowing how) knowledge. This ensures that pupils are not only learning about physical concepts but are also equipped to apply their understanding effectively across various contexts.
“A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.”

Active Breaks at Lacewood
At Lacewood, we recognise the positive impact that physical activity has on children’s focus, well-being, and academic performance. We believe that keeping active throughout the day helps children concentrate better and produce higher-quality work in the classroom.
To support this, every child in our school has their own skipping rope, which they use during active movement breaks between lessons. These short, energising breaks help refresh their minds and bodies, preparing them to re-engage with their learning.
Thanks to this initiative, all our pupils now have the opportunity to develop their skipping skills, stay active, and enjoy a fun and healthy break during the school day.
