Foundation Stage
Over the course of the year, in Foundation Stage 1, the children cover the following topics:
Autumn Term - Sorting Materials (Natural and Manmade) and finding out how some materials are similar and some are different. Finding out how some materials can be changed.
Spring Term - Understanding how humans grow and change over time. Exploring the features of plants, animals and natural materials the children observe. Recognising the key features of the life cycles of plants and some animals.
Summer Term - Understanding the need to respect and care for the natural environment and all living things. To recognise how their behaviour can have an affect on the environment.
Over the course of the year, children in Foundation Stage 2 cover the following topics:
Autumn Term - Children will use their senses to explore and describe the natural world around them. Observing similarities, differences, patterns and change in nature. Learning the importance of healthy practices, including managing physical, hygiene, dietary and mental needs.
Spring Term - Children will talk about and explore past and present events in their own lives and those of people familiar to them. They will make observations of plants and animals, considering why some things occur and describe the changes they notice. Children will observe and describe similarities and differences in relation to objects, places, materials and living things.
Summer Term - Children will find out about the impact humans can have on the environment. They will also developing an understanding of the effect the changing seasons has on the environment around them.
