Council Minutes for meeting

21st January 2011

Willow  Class

Tia likes everything at Lacewood and loves being here full time. Most of Willow Class are also really enjoying spending more time at school and are busy looking at lots of goods books. The children are enjoying the wide range of activities in the Foundation Stage.

Children in FS do find the dinner hall very noisy and is sad at people running around at lunchtime because she finds it frightening. We need to remind each other of the places that we should not be running and that this is to keep us safe. To help make the dinning hall quieter we are going to play quiet, music that will encourage children to keep noise levels lower.

Ash Class

Ash Class are enjoying writing and play activities and say that they are having fun learning new things. They enjoy the fruit tuck but they would like to have pasta pots more often please. The children miss playing on the grass when it is wet but Mrs Bailey explained why this is. They also wish that they didn't have to go outside when it is cold but we all agreed that if we wrap up warm then we will be nice and cosy. Ash would like to know if the break time library club will be running again now that Miss Buckley has left to have her baby. For the moment we cannot replace Miss Buckley because we don't have the funding to do this. However, we will look at this again shortly and we will keep you informed.

Maple Class Maple children really enjoyed playing on the Space  Hoppers and they think that the tents make good dens in the yard to play hide and seek in.  Maple boys liked Hockey games on the MUGA and the school council representatives noted that this was on our agenda from the previous meeting and had now been put in place.

Maple class asked if they could have some chalk in the yard to draw with and they wanted to know when the sandpit be opened again. Mrs Anson has said that chalk is replaced when it is needed and she will make sure that there is plenty available. The sandpit will be opened as soon as the weather allows this. It was passed on that some children think that there are not enough hula hoops in the yard at one time. Mrs Anson would like to remind children to try really hard not to throw hula hoops onto the school roof because this will mean that there will be less to play with. Some children wondered if we could have a fish tank so we could look after animals. Lexi is going to discuss this with Mr Cadman.

Holly Class Holly children are enjoying their topic on Henry V111 and they were looking forward to going to the community library. They are really enjoying the different clubs before and after school. Children are concerned that there is not much choice for dinner if they are the last in. Holly asked if they can have jacket potatoes and order these like when we have pasta, they added that this would mean that they would get something that they like. Mrs  Lassu is going to discus this with Mrs Cadman and we will let you know as soon as possible. Children are concerned about some children running in the corridor and they want children to be kinder in the cloakroom. We need to remind each other about where it is not safe to run and also to think about others and to show kindness too.

Holly children want to know if they can have some new lego in class, particularly lego people. Miss Crookes-Taylor is going to order some lego people shortly. They also want to know when the first eco school council meeting will be and if we will be having another fun run on the school field. The members of the eco school council are going to the opening of the new cycle path in Bolton - upon - Dearne on February 17th with Mrs Chalkley and the first eco school council meeting will be before this

Linden Class Linden are happy with the topics covered in school and also with the point shop because they like the prizes although they would like a wider choice of these. Linden asked if it could be possible to order jacket potatoes like we do pasta pots. Mrs Lassu is going to discuss this with Mrs Cadman and we will let you know as soon as possible. They also wanted to know if we can have another dressing up day to raise money (pyjama day). When staff have ordered small world equipment and have booked their trips we will then look at the amount in school funds and then see if and when we need to organise another fundraising event. Toby asked if we can have a pet day where we bring small animals to show. Whilst this is a lovely idea, bringing pets into school could cause certain problems. Some children, and adults, can suffer allergic reactions to animals and we don't want this to happen. Also, we have to think about both safety of children, adults and the pets that would be brought into school. Mrs Bailey suggested bringing in photographs of our pets and then we can show these as a presentation on the IWB or even make a storyboard using Moviemaker and then we could upload these onto Radiowaves.
Beech Class

Beech  are happy with the fact that we can have orange juice at tuck and they are enjoying playing hockey in MUGA. The morning and after school clubs are very popular and children are really enjoying these.

Dinners were also on the minds of Beech and they asked if we could have a system to make sure that everyone gets the dinner they asked for. This is because sometimes there is not enough left when they go into the dinning hall last so they don't always get what they ask for. Mrs  Lassu is going to discuss this with Mr Cadman and we will let you know as soon as possible.

Sophie asked if we have carrot sticks at the tuck shop (as mentioned at a previous meeting). Mrs Lassu is going to order carrots on the next online shopping order.

Cedar Class

Cedar class are enjoying the new flavours of pasta that are available and they are very interested in Radiowaves for school and home. The new film club is brilliant according to Stephen and Cedar are enjoying playtimes especially the new chalk wall.

Cedar think that it would be nice to know the pasta flavour for that day just in case they don't like it. This idea will be passed on to Mrs Cadman. Also Cedar asked if they could have a sheltered area for outside maybe parent shelter which could be covered in. Although this is a great idea it would cause a certain problems for our outside area. A closed in structure could attract people from outside our school to enter school grounds outside school hours. Dangerous litter could be left in the school grounds and the equipment, that we value and enjoy so much, could be damaged. We are going to look at getting a portable structure which we could enjoy during the school day and then dismantle and bring inside at the end of the day.

Also we can use the bird hides and areas directly outside classes for shelter. Stephen asked how long will the film club and multiskills last for. The film club will be running until the end of Summer Term but will not always be for the same year group. The multi skills will definitely run until the end of March and then we will have to look at this again when we know more about available funding.

Mrs Bailey thanked every one for coming to the meeting and said that Lexi and Stephen would present the minutes from the meeting to Mrs Chalkley.
