Staff and governors at Lacewood are committed to inclusive education. A broad and balanced curriculum is every child’s entitlement. Some children identified as having special educational needs require specific and structured programmes tailored to that child’s individual needs. Every effort is made to identify children with special educational needs. The progress of each child is carefully monitored. We follow the current Barnsley LEA guidelines relating to the identification and management of children's Special Educational Needs. Our Nursery has improved access and adapted areas for children who have physical disabilities.
School ActionAny concerns, which arise with a child’s progress, will lead to an initial discussion between teachers and parents of those children identified as needing extra help. This work will be given mainly within the framework of the classroom and using such resources, which we have at our disposal in school and will include an Individual Education Programme when this is appropriate.
School Action PlusIn some cases it may be necessary to obtain help and advice from other professional sources such as the Psychological Service, Medical Specialists or the Special Educational Support Service. However, outside help will only be sought after discussion with parents and their written agreement to take this course of action has been obtained. In some cases, a statement of Special Educational Need will be issued by the Local Authority to detail a child's needs and the level of support required. |
