At Lacewood, children
throughout the school take part in a variety of physical activities,
including games, apparatus work, movement and dance. As part of the
National Curriculum swimming is offered to all Year 3 children.
Our P.E policy, in line with the National Curriculum requirements, aims to
contribute to the physical development of each child. Developing
versatility, adaptability and control, as well as the child’s ability to
co-operate with others, be creative and confident. In the early years P.E.
helps to develop basic movement skill and co-ordination, while older
children are encouraged to think for themselves, solve problems and
develop successful strategies and tactics in a wide variety of games. All
key stage one and two classes are timetabled to participate in at least 2
hours of physical activity each week. Outdoor education is included in the
curriculum whenever the opportunity arises or the weather enables. Outdoor
physical activity is also encouraged within Key Stage two residential
visits.
The school
has 2 hall for indoor work, a large area of tarmac and a small field for
outdoor work We aim to utilise the wider community as much as is possible
through the development of skills such as orienteering and football.
The school
aims to offer a range of after school activities which can include
football, matball, netball, cricket and rugby. The school participates in
tournaments in these areas as much as possible involving other schools
from the surrounding area and wider locality.
Foundation
Staff have received training for a Tops Tots programme, which has provided
resources and activities aimed to develop the quality of P.E. in the early
years. The school is also mow involved in the governments School Sports
Co-ordinator initiative, which aims to support and resource the delivery
of high quality P.E. teaching and activity.
