Lacewood Learning Mentor / Parent Link WorkerProviding additional support to schools to raise attainment and achievement for all pupils in the Dearne. Lacewood's Emotional Literacy Programme I drew on a vast amount of knowledge, help and guidance from other professionals and outside agencies to pull this programme together for children and staff at Lacewood Primary School. I feel both children and staff appreciate all my enthusiasm and hard work. "Children can learn to recognise, understand, appropriately express and handle emotional states in themselves and others." All children entering full time education have at least one lesson during a period of two weeks. At Lacewood children are introduced to Emotional Literacy Workshops on a weekly bases upon entering full time education. Circle time: Is a structured occasion when a group meets in a circle to speak, listen, interact and share concerns. The circle is a symbol of unity and co – operation. There are three key elements of traditional Circle time:
Circle Time links with self – esteem, positive behaviour, spiritual and moral development, speaking and listening. Occasionally Yoga or Jabadao, are incorporated in to my workshops but Circle time, Relaxation and Visualization are included in each workshop.
Yoga:Started thousands of years in India; the first people to practice it were imitating the movements and postures they observed in animals. By introducing Yoga to our children we teach then to become more aware of their bodies. How they naturally breathe and move. In turn giving them the tools to listen and be in tune with their bodies.
Jabadao:Movement and dance, It is a natural way in which we humans can learn, grow and feel good in our bodies no matter how young, old, boisterous or frail we are.
Creative Visualization:We use this as a form of active meditation that can help part of life and can pay huge dividends towards their attitude, productivity and success. Children are encouraged to feel and talk about their emotions.
