Lacewood Primary School is proud to be one of the first 100 schools in the country to be awarded the new ICT Mark in January 2006. We also hold the NAACE mark from the National Association of Advisers in Computer Education awarded in October 2005.

In recent years Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has become a more and more important subject in the primary curriculum. It is not difficult to see why; every aspect of our modern lives in controlled by ICT in one form or another, it is therefore vital that children learn about it's capabilities, how and when to use it and some of the associated risks such as appropriate use of the Internet, email and mobile phone technology.
While ICT is in the curriculum as a subject in its own right and is timetabled for one hour per week for each class in keystages one and two, the reality is that children experience far more ICT than the minimum amount because it has uses in all the other areas of the curriculum. It is far more likely that you will see ICT skills being taught alongside other subjects instead of on their own.

To help us deliver ICT effectively at

Lacewood we have two suites of computers, one of which uses wireless technology to enable better integration into other areas of the curriculum. Each class has a desktop machine though the numbers of these will be increased in keystage one. We also have two data projectors and an interactive whiteboard where the teacher can demonstrate how to use software or pupils can operate the computer in front of the whole class. We also have a wide range of up to date software and subscribe to online content to enable the complete integration of ICT into the entire curriculum.

One of the most powerful ICT tools which we use is the Internet. Many people are worried about children on the Internet, yet it is a vital part of their education experience.

If you want to know more about being safe online, visit the Internet Proficiency Scheme for Key Stage 2 pupils.
