Geography at KS1 comprises work on geographic skills, study of two localities and an environmental study. Similarly at KS2 this work is extended incorporating three localities and a study of geographic themes e.g. rivers.
Our teaching of geography, as with other curriculum areas is made up of topic work that can last from a couple of weeks to half a term or so, depending upon the age of the children and the extent of the work planned by the teacher.
Where appropriate, emphasis is placed on first hand experiences, including the opportunities at present for Key Stage 2 children to spend 2 or 3 nights away from home on residential field visits with their teachers to places that have included the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales, Yorkshire Coast, Norfolk, Lake District, and the Peak District. Generous use is also made of the local environment around the school in Bolton-on-Dearne. |
