In essence Design and Technology at Lacewood involves making things which have a use. This involves children in a process of:

bullet

Examining the ways in which other people have made things.

bullet

Creating their own ideas and designs.

bullet

Learning techniques from using tools to sewing and cooking.

bullet

Evaluating their work and learning from their successes and mistakes.

Houses at year 2

We use the Design and Technology scheme of work from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority supported by other resources but we also adapt these to integrate this work into the rest of the curriculum such as making puppets which can be used in role play in Literacy to making musical instruments and learning more about the science

of sound and, of course, music in the process.

The children work work a variety of different materials and tools throughout their time in Lacewood and can cover tasks from how to handle and prepare food to making biscuits or designing patterns in fabric to making a pair of slippers as well as model building using construction kits and other materials such as wood and even paper straws.
