Our celebration and pupil information wall are updated continuously and provides a space for pupils to celebrate their success and to access updated information. As a class we all support each other and share collectively in our achievements. Here is our celebration wall and pupil information wall:

Below is a photograph of our learning wall which contains the key questions from a planned scheme of work. The learning wall allows children to be involved with their own learning and to know exactly what we will be learning across the curriculum in each topic theme.

 

 

Class writing target: Using effective language - composition and effect

  1. I can choose ambitious and precise vocabulary to tell the readers exactly what I want them to know.

 

  1. I can use adverbial and adjectival phrases to create variety and add interest to my writing.

 

  1. I can vary how I start my sentences by telling the reader, when, how, where or why things happen.

 

Class reading target:  To deduce, infer and interpret information, events or ideas

  1. I can use skills of scanning and skimming to locate key words from the question and then use the retrieved information to inform my answers

 

  1.  I can make sensible predictions about what could happen next by using the information that I have read

Class maths target: To check answers and to give reasoning for choices made

Class resolution: Through self-belief and a positive attitude we will embrace our learning journey.

 

 

Our topic for this term will be ‘ Going Underground’ and we will be looking at the lives of people who worked in the coal mines. Our topic theme will link to all areas of learning and will also be included in homework tasks. ICT will concentrate on developing the skills needed to carry out research.

Below is our role play area which depicts a scene from a typical home of a coal miner. This area gives pupils the opportunity to understand and build on their knowledge of how people lived in both a different era and in a different place to their own locality.

During science lessons we will be focusing on both gases and changing state. To enable us to find out interesting facts we will take part in both written and practical tasks. Here is a photograph of our current science display:

 

Literacy

During the Summer term, Literacy lessons will be based around the much loved novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ (Roald Dahl, 1995). Lessons will be tailored to incorporate Non-Fiction Unit 3 balanced arguments and persuasive writing as well as Unit 2 letter writing and also descriptive writing.

Lessons will link directly to our topic through cross curricular links.

Mathematics

During this term children will be covering a range of objectives relating to several areas of maths. These areas will include: time, division and multiplication, addition and subtraction, 2D and 3D shape and ongoing mental recall strategies . All work set will be tailored to meet each individual child’s needs

Science

During science lessons we will be focusing on forces and friction. To enable us to find out interesting facts we will take part in both written and practical tasks.

ICT

All subjects will have cross-curricular links to ICT to enable children to develop skills in this area. We will be focusing on developing skills in the use of both audio and video recording equipment. This will be a super learning opportunity for the children and a great deal of fun too!

Modern Foreign Languages We will be focusing on French in both oral and written work. By building on children’s previous knowledge we will extend vocabulary and understanding of the language.
Music

Children will be exploring painting with sound – Exploring sound colours.

Physical Education Children will practise skills and techniques needed in various games and also dance and drama
Religious Education

We will be concentrating on both Christianity and Sikhism and places that are special.

Personal,  Social Health Education

During this term children will be concentrating on ‘all equal, all different’ and then ‘getting on and falling out’ where they will develop skills needed for effective relationships.

Art & Design and Technology

During this term we are going to concentrate on Aztec design and then we will move onto developing the skills needed for weaving.
