An individual record of achievement is kept for each child throughout school. Teachers assess children with particular reference to English, Maths, Science and I.C.T. using other areas of learning to help with this. A portfolio of children's work throughout school and levels of attainment are kept by subject co-ordinators e.g. History, Geography and Art etc.
Teacher Assessment is the most important aspect of assessment as the teachers know your children inside out and back to front (to forgive the pun.) Children's achievements are placed in our computerised Assessment system within school on a 1/2 termly basis.
Teachers use a range of materials to help with assessment within the school, but these are reinforced by the use of formal national tests. At the end of Year 2 and Year 6 Statutory Assessments are used nationally and in Years 3, 4 and 5 Optional Statutory tests are carried out. When children start Lacewood in Reception they are assessed using PIPS (Performance Indicators in Primary Schools) baseline assessments, a national testing system produced by Durham University. They are then assessed at the end of Reception to show progress made and clarify where children's strengths and weaknesses lie. These PIPS assessments are also carried out in Years 2,4, and 6 .and feed into the system throughout school.
Following Government legislation, parents receive a written report on their child's progress at the end of each academic year. At Lacewood, these reports coincide with the usual opportunity for parents to talk to the class teacher- usually twice a year at Open evenings when targets for each pupil are discussed with pupil. |
