Pupils’ understanding and enjoyment of art, craft and design will be developed through activities which include both;

-         Investigating and making,

-         Knowledge and understanding.

All classrooms are colourful and attractive and a positive approach to displays is seen as a means of valuing children's work and creating a stimulating and interesting environment. The Art curriculum includes six broad themes ;

1.Drawing

2.Painting

3.Collage

4.Printing

5.3-D Work

6.Textiles

These themes create diverse opportunities for children to express their ideas visually.  Within their work pupils will develop skills which heighten sensitivity and enable them to experience control of the elements of art – colour, line, tone, texture, form, shape and pattern.  The work is covered both as an element of a cross curricular theme or topic and as a separate subject where appropriate.

Through art children are able to make a personal response to the world around them.  They have many opportunities to develop a range of techniques through work in a variety of media.  Children are also taught to appreciate the work of various artists and the art of different cultures.
